It depends on how many pages, color or black and white, type of paper. There are other fish in the pocketbook color, even if Amazon is the largest.the spinner racks we used to see in drug stores and newsstands are now antiques. If your book is long, go with 6 x 9, which is a fairly large size much bigger and it looks weird--try measuring some traditionally published paperbacks on your own shelves. Modern paperbacks are a little wider and taller, and trade paperbacks are edging them into a smaller share of the market. So a longer book published at a larger trim size may even have a smaller production cost than a shorter book published at a tiny trim size, because the latter may have more pages. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly. Nobody has time to read eight forums! And 6x9 is oversized by contemporary standards -- most trade paperbacks are a bit smaller. I now would use 6x9 only when the finished book is more than pages. Three bits of advice: 1 Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition, and don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. It is easy to read -- but it's not print-on-demand! I have a handsome book on my shelf that is 5. Measure some books you find attractive in the page range of your own book, then look at the available trim sizes. And I use CreateSpace, of course, not this buggy KDP Print Beta. Any smaller, and there aren't enough words on a page at 11 or 12 point leaded enough to be readable. Production cost is based on the number of pages.
